A native of Maryland, Lisa Shine grew up spending weekends with her family at the amazing cultural institutions in and around Washington, DC that helped spark and foster an interest in art. From the time she could hold a pencil in her hand she was drawing on all available surfaces… art was always part of her world.
Lisa studied art on the side at UCLA, Otis College of Art & Design and other art centers. Her still life paintings have won awards at juried competitions including the National Orange Show in San Bernardino California.
Oil painting was her focus, but she has become an enthusiast of, and has shifted more time to, Encaustic painting. Lisa still enjoys oil, water color, pencil, collage and other mediums. Saturated color, shadow, light and line inform and impact her work. Her goal is to create beautiful and interesting images that encourage contemplative and appreciative responses from the viewer. Always striving to expand artistic knowledge, she continues to learn through travel, workshops and from the wealth of amazing and talented artists in Utah, around the US and abroad.
